The Mephisto Covenant The Redemption of Ajax Trinity Faegen Books

I put off reading The Mephisto Covenant because I had read some not so good reviews and I wasn't really in the mood to read a book that might let me down. And I kept putting it off until I finally decided I was being weird and just needed to read it for myself. My only regret is that I did not read it sooner.

This isn't a huge thought-provoking read. It's not going to turn you on your side and twist you around before leaving you a little dazed and confused. There's a ton of clichés, some inconsistencies, a few too many convenient coincidences, and quite a bit of info dumping in the first few chapters. And yet, I really enjoyed it. Somehow, the new twist on the mythology was able to make up for everything else in the novel that would usually annoy me.

Sasha's life is upended in the span of just a couple days. She escapes death at the hands of some of her classmates, her mother is sent to Russia, she moves in with an uncle she didn't know she had with an aunt that hates her, and she learns she is an Anabo, a daughter of Aurora (the daughter of Adam and Eve). Despite all of this, she doesn't give up on her life and makes the best of what she has been dealt. Yes, she is a bit of a damsel in distress at times, but she can also take care of herself.

Jax is the son of Mephistopheles, a son of Hell. He can only find redemption in the love of an Anabo. He comes across Sasha one evening while on a raid of Eryx's Ravens, lost souls, and he knows that there is a reason he has found her.

These two don't fall in love immediately, like so many young adult novels have their characters do. Instead, there's lust at first sight, but both characters try to act the way they think they should, and don't act upon that lust (much). Only after spending time with each other, which admittedly is still not much time, do they start to fall for one another.

There was enough action to keep me turning from page to page, not wanting to take a break. There was enough romance to make me smile and swoon. The story was unique and not the typical angel story. The Mephisto Covenant is a fantastic book that despite a shaky start, and having more of the typical Young Adult pitfalls than I can usually read, managed to pull me in and make me enjoy it. This is definitely a book for anyone who likes a bit of angel mythology wrapped up in the action and romance.

The Mephisto Covenant The Redemption of Ajax Trinity Faegen Books Reviews

The cover is gorgeous right? That was what attracted me to The Mephisto Covenant along with the idea of sons of hell it sounded like it would be a hot and fast paced read but it fell short. Everything was there for it to be great but it just wasn't. Honestly I'm disappointed, I had high hopes for this book.

One thing that bugged me was the amount of information dumping this book had. And some info was repetitive in other words we the reader already learned about it but then a scene would come where Jax would explain the same thing again to Sasha. I personally would have liked to be left in the dark and learn about all the secrets along with Sasha instead. In moments like those I just got bored and skimmed the paragraph. The info dumping made it really hard to enjoy the book.

Also my goodness...Sasha was put through so much hell, I felt so bad for her character she was molested, almost raped, physically assaulted and verbally abused. I was just shocked and it's not until later that she started standing up for herself when her powers came to be and she got stronger but even then there were times someone else had to come and save her. Also I'm not sure if this should have been categorized as a YA there was a sex scene that was written out detail for detail.

Jax one of the sons of hell was HOT, but that was it I couldn't connect with him on any other level and learning his past it should have made me feel something for his character but I just couldn't connect.

What I did like was the uniqueness of the Mephisto Covenant, the Anabos and how the author added that to the story, the Ravens, Skias, and even the spin she did about purgatory which is why I am giving it two stars.
This book has all the qualities of which are needed in order for a story to be great. It's new and an amazing idea. The writing style makes me want to actually go in the book and become a character. It is vivid imagery and the illusions it creates are enough alone to make you log this book. I am amazed by the character development, interactions, an dynamics throughout the story.

The story it self is a little dark and sad, well very gloomy. However that is why it is such a good book. The stark contrast between the melancholy mood and tone of the story against the sweet romance of the hero and heroin put me in awe. When you see the love of the story and faith and frustration between the two protagonists you completely forget about conflict. I think that is what makes a good love story.

The main conflict is that of the evil brother who is trying to collect souls and overthrow the devil. An what is also cool is that Faegen puts Lucifer and Mephistoles into a different light than what we think of them in society now. With the entrance of this new villain we also see what can be construed as worst than Hell.

I am head over heels in love with this book, and have even bought the second without reading th description in good faith. I began this book the day I finished a book and went to library to get a novel to pass the time with. I started this book when I was about to go to bed around 10 and didn't stop until I was finished around dawn. I have bought this book only because I loved it so much and to say I own it, Ms. Faegen deserves compensation for creating such a epic story.
